Senior Timeline
August-September •September 1st - Apply now if you know where you want to go! •ACT Registration Deadline – Friday, September 20th (www.actstudent.org/start) •Visit post-secondary campuses–Mrs. Harder will help with scheduling campus visits, if needed •Finalize a list of post-secondary options for which applications will be sent •Obtain post-secondary application forms (UW System – https://apply.wisconsin.edu. WI Tech Schools – http://www.wistechcolleges.org/apply. ) •Write all post-secondary application deadlines on a calendar • Begin or continue to complete applications for admission, housing and/or financial aid •Actively search for scholarships •Register for any necessary test (ACT or SAT) •Schedule test preparation time – most test websites also have daily questions •Check that the academic program you are applying to meets high school graduation and post-secondary entrance requirements
October •Apply now if you know where you want to go! •November – FAFSA Meeting TBD •College Fair at UWEC - Eau Claire YMCA -- Wednesday, Oct 2nd (9:00a.m. - 11:00a.m.) Mr. Elliot needs to know if you are attending! •Register beforehand at www.gotocollegefairs.com. •ACT–Saturday, October 26th •Visit post-secondary campuses •Update your resume highlighting your academic, extracurricular work, and volunteer activities to give to people writing recommendations •Spend time choosing recommendation writers, if needed for applications •Hand out forms to people chosen to write recommendations (forms in Mrs. Harders room) • Take ACT/SAT if necessary •Continue working on applications •Start searching for possible scholarships, especially at your post-secondary school •Continue attending post-secondary and career information sessions
November •Visit post-secondary campuses •ACT Registration Deadline – November 8th (www.actstudent.org/start) •Take ACT/SAT/COMPASS, if necessary •Continue applying and searching for scholarships
December •Visit post-secondary campuses •ACT Test – Saturday, December14th •Complete post-secondary applications •Continue applying for scholarships • Register for future admissions tests, if necessary •Take ACT/SAT/COMPASS, if necessary •Gather the data needed for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
January •Make final visits to post-secondary campuses •Have all post-secondary applications completed •Take ACT/SAT/COMPASS, if necessary •Check that all recommendations, transcripts, and test scores have been sent to post-secondary schools of choice •Send mid-year grades to post-secondary schools, if necessary (see office)
February-April •Complete any late deadline application forms •Take needed tests •Evaluate offers of admission •Consider visiting post-secondary campuses before making final decision •Check to see that your mid-year transcripts have been sent to the schools to which you have applied (see office)
May •Make final decision, if not made earlier •Thank all those who have helped in the admissions process • Write “thank you notes” to the people who wrote you letters of recommendation
June •School district will send final transcript to the post-secondary school that you select
